Artist Statement
The original painting for this print was created using watercolor and ink, and was inspired by my summer camping trips in Utah. Under the crystal clear skies of desert, where the vastness of the horizon and the surreal shapes of the monolithic rock structures are dwarfed only by the night stars, I often feel as though I’ve stepped into another dimension of being. These experiences stir a deep wonder and a feeling of connectedness within, asking me to be still and listen, to accept my place exactly where I am – this is the feeling I wanted to capture in this piece.
The desert rocks’ warm color palette contrasts with the cool vibrant tones of the Milk Way, intentionally dwarfing the Stargazer, so that the light of the headlamp is barely visible among the glow of the starlight, reminding us our humble place within this powerful and beautiful universe.
Much of my artwork features vibrant nightscapes. A reflection of my own spiritual journey, these expressive starry skies and colorful palettes explore the beauty we find when we venture into the dark and unknown, and the treasures unearthed when we are willing to know and embrace our shadow.
About Giclee
Giclee signifies the highest quality print available, and is known for unparalleled detail in reproducing orginal artwork. This piece is printed with pigment inks on a 100% cotton rag, acid-free, lignin-free, fine art paper, which I personally picked for its rich color rendering and toothy texture, to mirror the feeling of the original painting.
This reproduction is archival (museum quality) and will stay true to its original rendering well beyond the point at which other prints may start to fade. To ensure the longevity of this piece, it should be framed behind glass.
