This oil painting was inspired by my winter solo missions and love of Highland Bowl. If you are familiar with Highlands, this is a fantastical representation of the view off the backside of the bowl. I wanted to capture the vibration of wild wonder you feel when you are alone in the quiet of winter, high in the mountains, thigh deep in a still blanket of deep soft snow.
The oversaturated palette and multiple suns are an expression of joy, of the many sources of light, and illustrate that surreal feeling of being on another planet that often takes hold of me during these experiences.
The bright colors of the sky are reflected on the snow and clouds below, reminding us that we are the makers of our own reality – what we dream in our inner world we can express outwardly.
